What you need to know when visiting Negombo, Sri Lanka

Negombo is a great place to stay after your international travels. Situated approximately 30 minutes away from the airport it allows you to quickly escape the hustle and bustle of Colombo upon arriving in Sri Lanka.

Using the PickMe app it cost us 950 rupees to get us to our accommodation.

Set by the seaside you can watch the fisherman bring in their catch in the early mornings or refresh after your travels with a dip in the ocean.

The beach is a great spot to move your body after long flights.

We stayed one night at the Petit Guesthouse and Restaurant. The photos were outdated so we were surprised at the lack of amenities and age of the property. However, for budget accommodation, it certainly did the job as the beds were comfortable and the breakfast included was delicious making is a good place to rest after a long travel day.

Although, we’d recommend spending a little bit more and booking into the Jetwing Blue or Golden Sands resorts. They’ve got direct beach access, large pools and dining.

For great food, at local prices, we’d advise Zands Kitchen and Bar. With on the beach dining and hottest 100 tunes playing this is a great spot to soak up the Negombo atmosphere. The Sri Lankan Curry Roti Duo and the Fisherman’s Net were scrumptious.

Awesome Heidi. You only need one night in Negombo upon arriving and perhaps one when leaving. There’s not much to do in the area but it’s much calmer than Colombo. We’ll continue to share our itinerary as we travel and can give you more tips as we adventure around. Besides the tragedy occurring today this place is amazing.
