CHAUNG THAR

This place is the perfect escape if you only have a few short days away from Yangon. My travel buddy and I absolutely loved it. There is something special about digging your feet into the sand and having the sea engulf your body. Beach escapes are pure bliss.

Getting there:

The night bus departs with Golden Star daily at 9 pm and cost us 22,000 return. The bus trip should only take 4-5 hours but managed to take us 8 hours and upon arriving the bus driver did not want to to take us to our hotel because he was tired and wanted to sleep. This then meant that we had a small adventure on the back of two random motorbikes at 5 am to our final destination. The perfect way to start a trip and experience sunrise.

Things to do:

RELAX! I would recommend hiring a bicycle for your time and cruising around the beaches and streets taking it all in. You can hire some tubes and float about in the water or do as you please. The beach is perfect for sunset.

You can of course do snorkelling trips, mangrove exploring and visit Nuang Shwe if you have more time. See my post Inle Lake/ Nuang Shwe for more details.

Snoozing:

I will definitely return to Hill Garden Hotel. This place was an awesome bungalow escape within close proximity to the beach but far enough away from the Main Street to get some peace and quiet.

Foods, drinks and all that jazz: I personally did not have any memorable eating places to share other then the hotel listed above. Perfect dishes in the most perfect environment.

Next time I will certainly endeavour to have more time to explore the beaches of Nuang Shwe and Ngapali Beaches in more detail.

What was your favourite thing about Chaung Tha?
